Take me out to the ballgame...

Last night I took LW1 to his first "professional" baseball game (we went to a University game a few months ago). We both had a great time (I may have enjoyed myself more than LW1 did). We drove about 35 minutes north-east of home and watched our minor league team take on the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. LW1 lasted 3 and 2/3 innings which was actually longer than I was expecting him to last. He was really cute about watching the "baseball men" but all he really wanted to do was go out on the field because he kept asking me if he could "run on the grass". I think the highlights of his evening were eating popcorn, drinking sprite, and climbing on the seats. I was OK with him being ready to go after only a few innings because apparently last night was "Thirsty Thursday" which means beer was $1. One guy next to us was drunk when we got there just before the first pitch. On our way out of the stadium two guys were yelling because they had been "cut off" and they were sure that they were no where near drunk. I was very happy to be on the road long before everyone else. Later when I was putting him to bed he asked me if I'd sing him the "baseball song". The only baseball song I know is "Take me out to the Ballgame" so that' s what we sang. He didn't protest so it must have been the one he was thinking about. You've got to love baseball!

Two is More Fun Than One

I love watching my kids playing together. I know someday soon LW2 is going to be able to protest when she doesn't want to "trade" toys and LW1 is going to be really mad when LW2 isn't playing by the rules...But right now it's just so fun to see LW1 playing with his sister and taking care of her, and LW2 looking at him like he's the best thing in the whole world.
I was so lucky that I was holding the camera when this happened. It is so cute!
(For those of you who don't understand mosquito, the translation follows.) :)

Squeak Squeak.......Thank You!
Do you want another one so that you can eat it?
Do you want tiny Percy?
You can suck on this one. Thank You!
That's tiny like you.
Squeak, Squeak.....squeak

Aren't they cute together?! There are moments I love being a mom!

WIlliamsburg, VA

I had a conference in Richmond the Thursday after Memorial Day so we decided to turn the trip into a family vacation. We lucked into getting a place in Williamsburg for the week and had a blast. We spent a ton of time in the pool but we did venture out a few times throughout the week. We played in the York River, road a a ferry across the James River for no other reason than to ride a ferry, explored the ships at Jamestown, went miniature golfing with "nice pirates" and over all had a great time. LW2 went swimming for the first time and we got $100 for listening to a timeshare sales pitch. There are a few advantages to being a poor student - people believe you when you say "we don't have the money for this right now". The conference went well but the highlight of the week was defiantly playing in the pool.

Gal decided that we needed to introduce LW1 to the wonderful world of miniature golf. The mini golf place had a pirate theme that LW1 thought was a little daunting at first. Once we told him these were nice pirates he was more than willing to hit the links. LW1 would grab the ball place it about six inches from the cup and yell "And now you GOLF IT IN!"He really did have a good time. By the end of 18 holes LW1 decided he needed to use Gal's club so they traded.

LW2 didn't really know how to react to the pool...it was fun...it was scary...it was wet. Overall she handled the situation fairly well but she did look really cute so that's all that mattered.

LW1 would have spent the whole week in the pool if we would have let him. The first day he was a little hesitant about being in the big pool but by the end of the week he was having a great time.

Pathetic Parent

Since the Guy has been running our blog I haven't felt the need to post....but I finally got interested enough to give it a try. I don't promise to do it again, but it kind of looks fun. And just for the record, if you're on this site and you have a blog, there is a very good chance I have seen your blog. Just call me the lurking queen.

So the other day I was on the pampers website (don't ask) and I found out that they are having a cute kid contest. Well, I just love this picture of LW 1. I've always thought it makes him look like a little model. So to make a long story short, I filled out a whole bunch of stuff online to enter him into the contest until I got to the page that was asking for my credit card number so it could charge me $20. Lame! Afterwards, I couldn't decide which was more pathetic - the fact that I wouldn't fork out the cash for my kid's potential fame or that I was going to submit the picture in the first place. I guess I'll just let you make your own judgment about the picture.

The Butcher Man

A few weeks ago I got a phone call from a friend asking if we wanted some meat. I said sure, where did you get it. He said a vet in our ward had a cow with a broken hip that was going to be put down. the only catch was we had to slaughter, skin, quarter and butcher it. Fortunately, I missed out on the first three parts of the process but on Friday we picked up the meat about 40 minutes from home and brought it over to the vets house and butchered the cow. It was an amazing process. At first I was thinking we need to get a grill going...after about three hours I was thinking, I'm going to have all this meat and I'm never going to want to eat red meat every again. It took four of us about four hours to butcher the cow - it would have taken longer but the cow was old so we were advised to turn most of the meat into ground beef. After I got home about 10:30 I decided to trim our portion up a little more and then get it into the refrigerator. On Saturday we bought a small chest freezer so the meat wouldn't got bad. So if you're in town on a Sunday come on over for dinner...we're having roast.
